A Jindal TMT bar is a Thermo-Mechanically Treated steel reinforcing bar, a high-strength steel used in concrete construction to improve structural integrity. "Jindal" refers to the brand name of the manufacturer, Jindal Panther TMT bars, which are produced using the advanced Quenching and Self-Tempering (HYQST) technology, resulting in a bar with a tough exterior and a soft, ductile core that provides superior strength, flexibility, and seismic resilience for modern buildings. 
What is a TMT bar?
TMT stands for Thermo-Mechanically Treated. It is a type of steel bar specifically manufactured for construction, featuring a unique microstructure: 
  • Hard Outer Core: The outer layer is tough and strong, offering high tensile strength.
  • Soft Inner Core: The core is soft and ductile, allowing the bar to bend without breaking.
The Manufacturing Process (HYQST Technology)
Jindal TMT bars are made using the HYQST process, which involves a series of steps:
  1. Heating: Steel is heated to very high temperatures. 
  2. Quenching: The hot steel is rapidly cooled by passing it through a high-pressure water jet system. This hardens the outer surface. 
  3. Self-Tempering: The heat from the bar's inner core, combined with the newly formed outer layer, allows the outer surface to temper itself, forming the desired tough exterior. 
  4. Cooling: The bar then cools under normal atmospheric conditions.
